 Available to you in our office is technology known as the Myomonitor. This is a muscle stimulating device to assist in relaxing muscles. This is of special interest for our patients who suffer from TMJ and jaw-related pain.
The relaxation of these muscles is accomplished by using electrical muscle stimulation. It is a hand held device that you control and it is used to treat the following:
• Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction and associated pain
• To relieve symptoms associated with muscle spasm
• To relax muscles and establish a proper bite relationship
• To increase blood circulation thereby promoting looser muscles
 After this machine relaxes your facial muscles, it gives us accurate measurements of muscle activity. The ultimate goal is relaxed muscles, meaning that they are free from tension and pain and will function properly when chewing, speaking and smiling.
Tense muscles are often the cause for head, neck and back pain. The technology of Myomonitor aids us in relieving some of these symptoms. Afterwards, a splint is constructed to fit over the teeth which helps the muscles relax at the position as determined by the computer.
